Blue Devils in Space: Discussing the Future of Space Policy

In late March 2026, I participated as a panelist in a virtual session hosted by Duke’s Forever Learning Institute, titled “Space Policy and Society.” As we move from an era of exploration to one of utilization, I discussed the transition of Outer Space into a vital economic engine and the legal challenges that follow. Our conversation touched on:

  • Space Sustainability: Managing the “high-speed interstate” of low Earth orbit to prevent debris and collisions.

  • The New Space Era: How private capital is outpacing traditional government timelines and creating a need for modern legal foundations.

  • Regulatory Literacy: Why public discourse and digital media are essential for shaping the future of space law.

It was a privilege to share the virtual stage with such an esteemed group of Duke alumni and experts. I was definitely a bit nervous at the start, so apologies for the fast-talking, just pure excitement for the subject matter!
